Our Story

In April of 2000, Joseph F. Capozza opened Old Port Specialty Tile Co., a division of Capozza Tile Co., with the purpose of bringing a unique collection of specialty tile offerings that include artisan quality ceramics, opulent glass mosaics and an unparalleled variety of natural stone tiles. For the first seven years Old Port Specialty Tile was operated out of the iconic E. Swasey & Crockery Building on Commercial St. In 2007 we moved to 59 Middle St., allowing us to double our showroom size and display space. A decade later an opportunity to move into the brand new Mason Block Building at 62 India St. right around the corner arose and it was a perfect fit. In August of 2018 Old Port Specialty Tile opened the doors to our current showroom. Here we have ample space to continuously develop our product offerings, creating a unique environment for inspiration and collaboration.

We achieve this by offering a wide array of options combined with exceptional design staff and superior customer service. From initial design to a high-quality installation, we are passionate about transforming your project from ordinary to extraordinary.

Old Port Specialty Tile Co. is just one division of Capozza Tile Co., Inc.; a Family-Owned, third generation managed business that has been in operation since 1974. The original company, Capozza Floor Covering Center, is at 267 Warren Ave in Portland. This location houses: a Residential Showroom which offers carpet, hardwood, vinyl, cork, in addition to tile; our Commercial Division; and the full company’s warehouse. In 2016 our family joined with a partner and launched Capozza Concrete + Epoxy Flooring. Located in Gray, ME, our newest location specializes in epoxy flooring, decorative concrete toppings, polished concrete, moisture mitigation, cementious underlayments, and interior + exterior concrete rehabilitation. Joe Capozza Sr. built this company based on the premise “treat others as you would like to be treated.” From our beginnings in a basement to where we are today, this has been an attitude that we have strived to develop throughout the whole company. Whether it is shown through our relationships, or work within the community, compassion is crucial to continued growth and our company’s long-term success of the company.
