Join Us In Helping Strike Out Cancer In Kids

Welcome to the 2017 Strike Out Cancer in Kids season-long fundraiser!

Before we dive in, we would like to sincerely thank you for getting involved in this year’s friendly rivalry between our 2017 Slugger Kid, Seth Jones, and Portland’s favorite Mascot, Slugger! Whether you are supporting Team Seth or Team Slugger, a common goal is shared amongst each and every one of us: to strike out cancer in kids! On behalf of everyone at Maine Children’s Cancer Program, thank YOU for joining us, the Portland Sea Dogs, TD Bank/TD Charitable Foundation, Anthem BlueCross BlueShield, and WMTW Channel 8 as we all go to bat for kids in their fight against cancer.

With eight weeks ahead of us, filled with competition, fundraising, and community involvement, we wanted to take this opportunity to explain the ground rules and provide some details as a helpful guide in making this a successful SOCK season.

Let’s start with current team standings:
Each week, we will be sharing our team’s fundraising totals via email to our full participant roster, and to our MCCP community through social media. You will find this captured in the image below. Both teams came out of the gate strong –Slugger’s Gold Team leading with a total of $8,244.82 raised to date, followed by Seth’s Green Team with $5,186.15.

Fueling our teams:
We would like to highlight some key players in this year’s Strike Out Cancer in Kids fundraiser – WEX, fueling Team Seth, and Capozza Tile & Floor Covering Center and the Portland Sea Dogs, fueling Team Slugger. Our team sponsors are not only representing their respective teams, but they have each provided a generous fundraising incentive for our participants. When Team Seth reaches the $10,0000.00 mark, WEX will match the $10,000.00, doubling the team’s total to $20,000.00! Similarly, Capozza and the Portland Sea Dogs will be teaming up to match Team Slugger’s $10,000.00 to total $20,000.00 as well!

Make the match count:
Throughout the season, we encourage you to be creative and do your part in making your team’s match count! Host a bake sale, have a car wash, create an office competition amongst your colleagues, anything and everything helps get your team to the $10,000.00 mark! For ideas, advice or materials, email ahuntersil@mmc.org.

What are you playing for:
More than bragging rights for this 2017 season!
At the end of eight weeks, we will be hosting a season-ending game at Hadlock Field, as an official closing ceremony for your fundraising efforts. Top fundraisers from both teams will be entered to participate in this special event. More details to come as the weeks follow!

Get others involved:
Start spreading the word!
Be an ambassador for Maine Children’s Cancer Program and get your loved ones, friends and colleagues involved by simply making a donation or pledge of any amount, choosing a team to support, and fundraising to be the top team at the end of the baseball season. Strike Out Cancer in Kids is an inclusive and easy way to help local children with cancer, and we want as many people as possible to participate!

Continue the legacy:
Since 1995, the success of this program has relied on the dedication of our supporters, sponsors and local community. To date, Strike Out Cancer in kids has raised over $4.6 million, with each dollar dedicated to supporting children fighting cancer in Maine. Help us continue the program’s legacy in making this 2017 season an impactful one for our patients and families.

Remember, every dollar given is DOUBLED when you support either Team Seth or Team Slugger at www.mmc.org/strikeout

Thank you for helping us strike out cancer in kids!
